Cool King® Vanilla Ice Cream Motion Graphic and Post Dialog
With this advertisement I wanted to impart a visual style that might be seen in a turn of the century Ice Cream Parlor.I wanted to suggest a feeling of walking into the corner shop in some midwestern small town. Where scooters made of a Coke crate, 2×4, and parts from your sisters old roller skates are parked next to someones hoop and stick.
For the sound design, I stumbled upon the song “Something On Your Mind” by Hilly Michaels. I found it had been used in the movie Caddyshack as the underlying music when Rodney Dangerfield crashes his boat. I thought it had an interesting feel. In some ways a hybrid of the intro of the Beatlles “All You Need Is Love” crossed with the music arranged by Walter (Wendy) Carlos for the movie A Clockwork Orange.
With the post dialog, I played on the idea that “Vanilla” is typically used as a term to define something as not very interesting, tows the party line, is not diabolic, nor divine. I can tell you from experience, this soft-serve version of the classic is full flavor dynamo — definitely not mundane!
