Cool King® Dragon Fruit (aka Pitaya) Sorbet

What is the scenario in 2024, the year of the dragon?

For Cool King® Frozen Yogurt & Desserts, it’s the introduction of their Dragon Fruit (aka Pitaya) Sorbet.

When I first was presented with creating the marketing materials for this project, all I could think about was Busta Rhymes’ part in Tribe Called Quest’s song Scenario where he says, “Rawr…rawr… like a dungeon dragon.”

This and the medieval/fantasy atmosphere that sprung to my mind inspired the theme of this project.

For the background image, I dipped my toes in using DALL-E through Bing’s AI prompt. After a variety of prompts, I got it to render something close to what I had in my mind’s eye, but it added a knight in armor laying on the ground against the wall that I did not want. I used Photoshop’s Generative Fill option to aid in removing it and touched up other areas that didn’t fit the composition.

I then sourced a stock image of Dragon Fruit and color corrected it to have the same tone as the picture taken at the shop of the cup of soft-serve sorbet with fruit. I brought these elements into Illustrator and built the remainder of the graphic.

Once the card was composed, I took these elements and exported them as PNG files so I could build the motion graphic using CapCut.

For the motion graphic, I thought it would be fitting to remix the Tribe Called Quest song that inspired me in the first place and use it as the soundtrack for the ad.

I keep trying to find new ways to utilize each stock transition or effect CapCut includes, and truthfully, I keep being surprised how there seems to be one that fits what is needed. Even in the most obscure situations. For instance, the fire effect in this video was exactly the element I needed for to transition to the dragon image.

In this dessert fantasy, I imagine a taste of Cool King’s newest treat will bear the fruit of good luck to all those who choose to indulge.
