Cool King “Rocket Pop” Sorbet Advertisement and Flavor Card

In celebration of Independence Day, I put together an advertisement and flavor card Cool King’s Non-dairy “Rocket Pop” Sorbet.

In the video, the song sampled is “Rocket” by Def Leppard. I liked how it used audio from what sounded like a NASA Apollo launch from the 1960s.

For the visuals, I was inspired by vintage fireworks packaging. For instance I utilized large halftones and mezzotint dots to emulate a design that would of been created for a loose screen print job. I envisioned one where the registration would most likely been all over the place, but I believe that would of given it some of its character.

With the advertising text, I wrote it in a comedic midcentury style with the intent of it being read by a voice actor similar to Kelsey Grammer with a Mid-Atlantic English accent enunciating every syllable to its fullest potential. Though, for the “NoOooo…” part I leaned heavily on this clip featuring John Belushi.
